- Name: Brachypelma albopilosum
- Common Name: Honduran Curly Hair
- Genus: Brachypelma
- Family: Theraphosidae
- Year of Discovery: 1980
- Habitat: Tropical Scrubland (Terrestrial)
The Brachypelma albopilosum is an opportunistic burrower, in my experience specially as tiny slings. - Temperament: The Brachypelma albopilosum is considered to be a very docile species.
- Growth Rate: Medium
- Adult Size: Up to 6 inches (15.24 cm)
- Temperature: 70-85°F (21.1-29.4°C)
- Humidity: 50-70% (I overflow the water bowl from time to time)
- Enclosure: The most important when it comes to terrestrial species is not to give them an enclosure that is too high, since a fall can severely harm them. Since this species is an opportunistic burrower, make sure to give them plenty of substrate to allow them to burrow if they wish to do so. Always provide a hide for your tarantulas, a flower pot will do just fine.
A water bowl is another key thing that you will need to provide, don´t believe people that tell you that tarantulas don´t drink from a water bowl, they do. - Lifespan: Females can live up to 20 years, males have a much shorter lifespan (around 5 years)
- Experience Level: Beginner
- Substrate: I keep most of my tarantulas on coco fiber (Eco-Earth) sometimes I mix in vermiculite for the species that need more humidity. But this is something you can experiment with to find the mixture that works the best for you, just make sure that what you choose is safe for your tarantula.
The Brachypelma albopilosum is a wonderful species at first glance they may look like plane dark brown spiders, but if you look closely they have a bronze sheen to them.
The hairs on the legs of the albopilosum is what makes them so special, and also the reason for the common name - Curly Hairs.
I could definitely recommend this species to beginners as well as more experienced keepers.
